SUMMARY:Understanding Climate Change: Opportunities and Need for Collective Action (Online)
DESCRIPTION:Understanding Climate Change: Opportunities and Need for Collective Action.Facilitated by: Devashree Niraula\nWorkshop date: 13th Oktober kl18.00 – 20.00 \nSign up here! \nAbout the Workshop: \nThe effects of climate change in the Nordic region are comparatively lesser-known. The region is often categorised under the “least vulnerable nations” in the world. However\, its forthcoming is unavoidable. Some traces have already been seen with record-breaking events such as the landslide in the Gjerdrum area in Norway\, the recent flooding event in the Swedish city of Gävle and intensifying heatwaves.\nThe impacts of climate change however are disproportionate at different levels within countries\, communities and groups. Hence\, giving rise to the global discussion of climate justice. Additionally\, amidst the often mentioned ‘unpredictable’ nature of the climate that is amplified by human-induced changes\, it is difficult to look for a silver lining. \nThis workshop attempts to explore the following questions:\nWhat is climate change? What could it bring about in the Nordic countries? \nWhat is climate justice? Why is it important for the Nordic countries?\nWhat are the opportunities brought along by climate change? The role of permaculture and ecosystem restoration in climate change. \nAbout the facilitator: Devashree is an active climate change facilitator for Climate Fresk\, raising public awareness on climate change. She is currently working as an Intern with United Nations Environment Program. \nDevashree has a strong academic background in climate change. She belongs to Nepal and currently resides in Sweden. She has had five years of expertise in the field of climate activism. In Nepal\, she has intensively worked with mountain communities\, especially the Sherpa community regarding climate justice and climate adaptation. Bringing the same knowledge to Sweden she is associated with Friends of the Earth\, Sweden (Jordens Vänner) where she is actively engaged with grassroots communities\, elaborately discuss climate change along with individual and communal roles in pushing climate agendas. \nRequirements for the Workshop:\nTime requirement: 2 hrs\nA stable internet connection. Preferred to be on a laptop\nBring along some warm beverage and a glass of water 🙂 \nPrice:\nFree for members in Norsk permakulturforening\nNon-members Kr 200\,- \nSign up here!
